چکیده

The surface and layer state of thin ion-beam-irradiated Au–Al layers was investigated with scanning high-energy ion microscopy (SHEIM), RBS and SEM. The thin metal layers (90 nm Au top layer and 200 nm A layer deposited on polished glassy carbon) were produced by evaporation and subsequently irradiated with 2.0 MeV 4He‘ ions (ion current 300 nA; beam spot diameter 0.5 mm) to initiated the Au–Al interdi†usion process in the layered structure. In situ RBS measurements were performed during irradiation. Both SEM and SHEIM (threedimensional mapping) analysis of as-deposited and ion-beam-irradiated specimens showed the stability of the separated and interdi†used layers. Voids in the interdi†used Au–Al layer and at the specimen surface were not observed. by John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. (

X-ray re ̄ectivity investigation of near-surface density changes induced in Al±Au multilayers by high-current ion beam bombardment

Alternating Al±Au multilayers (typical thickness of each layer 150 nm) were deposited on polished glassy carbon substrates by evaporation under high-vacuum conditions at 278 K and subsequently interdi€used with high-current 2.0 MeV 4He‡ ions. After ion beam bombardment, non-destructive X-ray re ̄ectometry measurements reveal a signi®cant decrease of the density in the near-surface region from 19...

Au Nanoparticle Sub-Monolayers Sandwiched between Sol-Gel Oxide Thin Films

Sub-monolayers of monodisperse Au colloids with different surface coverage have been embedded in between two different metal oxide thin films, combining sol-gel depositions and proper substrates functionalization processes. The synthetized films were TiO₂, ZnO, and NiO. X-ray diffraction shows the crystallinity of all the oxides and verifies the nominal surface coverage of Au colloids. The surf...

LOW-ENERGY-ION ENHANCED DIFFUSION AT THE SURFACE OF METALS

Radiation enhanced diffusion at the surface of metals has been observed and studied for low-energy nitrogen ions at the surface of copper. The displacement of the target atoms during irradiation creates vacancies and other defects near the surface, thus enhancing the diffusion of implanted materials toward the surface and also into the solid. The mechanism has been studied here by a specia...

Influence of nitrogen ion implantation on the nanostructure and corrosivity of Ni/stainless steel substrates

Ion implantation is a surface modification technology to produce new material on the surface by impingement of high energy ions from the ion accelerator. In this work, AISI 304 stainless steels were coated with 90 nm Ni film by electron beam deposition and implanted by a flow of 5×1017 N cm−2 at 400 K temperature with different implantation energies of 10, 20, 30 and 40 keV. The prepared sample...

Longitudinal Observation of Thin Hydroxyapatite Layers Formed on Anodic Oxide Titanium Implants after Hydrothermal Treatment in a Rat Maxilla Model

Purpose: Highly crystalline thin hydroxyapatite (HA) layers deposited on the surface of commercially pure titanium (cpTi) by discharge anodic oxidation and hydrothermal treatment (SA treatment) enhance the value of cpTi as endosseous implants in clinical dentistry. In particular, the SA treatment affects the osteoconductive properties of cpTi. Determining whether this HA layer retains its chemi...
